5S would like to wish all the mothers and those who look out for us a very Happy Mother’s Day!  We want to take this opportunity to tell you that we appreciate you very much!

A few quick reminders:

• Field Trip to Lower Fort Garry – Friday, May 18th, 2012 (permission forms and $5 returned to Mrs. Sloik).  Students must bring a bag lunch and dress appropriately for the weather.
• There was some confusion around the date of the dance, which is confirmed for Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012 from 7-9 pm
• YQS Track Meet – Friday, May 25th, 2012

Happy Friday!  Not much new to report this week.  Scholastic Book Orders are on their way.  We are currently reading a book called “Reading the Bones” by Gina McMurchy-Barber together as a class, and look forward to a visit from her next Friday.  I’m sure that 5S will have lots of creative and insightful questions for her!

Hello!  Another great week in 5S!  Mrs. McLean said that she enjoyed her time spent in 5S on Tuesday and said they were a very nice bunch…always nice to hear.  This week we were fortunate to receive books from the Portage Teachers’ Association as a gift for everyone in the class.  The books have social justice themes…things that really get the kids thinking and talking !  Ask your son or daughter to take a look!  We’re looking forward to our assembly this afternoon @ 2:20 pm.  Make sure to check back on Monday for an updated 5S Champions page.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sorry that it has been so long!  Seems that since we’ve been back from Spring Break, we’ve been up and running with no looking back!  Hope everyone got a chance to catch up with friends and family over Spring Break and Easter long weekend.

We have been experiencing some challenges with our Middle Years report cards. Because of this, unfortunately, Middle Years report cards will not be sent home today. They will be sent home tomorrow, March 21st. Sorry for the inconvenience, as I know you look forward to hearing about your son or daughter’s progress.

Happy Spring…oh wait, it’s still winter, technically!  Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy this crazy beautiful weather this weekend!

We’ve had a great couple of weeks in 5S!  I so much enjoyed getting together with most of you over Student Led Conferences.  What a chance for students to show off what they’ve been learning in grade 5.

Grade 5 students have just started a lunch time Dodgeball tournament, with almost all students participating.  The teams are:  Terrorizing Terriers, Powerful Patriots, Cool Capitals, Dodging Devils, Big Bad Bruins, Racing Raptors and Viscious Vikings.  They sure seem to be enjoying themselves.
